Stand outside Emily and Andrew Cox’s Torquay home and it is easy to see why they can’t stop smiling. Having dreamt about living on the coast for years this dream started to become a reality when they were handed the key keys to their dream home.
Emily said “the decision to build was initially scary, we had heard so many bad stories. The last thing we wanted was a builder who wouldn’t listen to our needs, it was really important that we found a builder who we could trust."
After looking around and speaking to several builders Emily and Andrew decided to visit Blue Cove Homes two display homes at Indented Head. “After looking through the displays we were really impressed with the style and also the quality and finish of each of the properties” said Emily. It was here they first met Michael & Di Dahm the owners of Blue Cove Homes. Impressed with what they had seen the Cox’s arranged to meet with them.
“After several meetings and viewing a portfolio of their past work, we felt really confident that that Michael understood exactly what we wanted and would deliver to our budget.
We had a strong preference for the type of home we were looking for. We wanted a design that was coastal modern, had clean lines and that was going to be great for entertaining, whilst also having a relaxed feel to it”. On top of this Michael and Di went out of their way to accommodate our needs. They have a really relaxed attitude yet they are extremely professional and trustworthy which really appealed to us. Based on this we went with them” said Emily.
Building of their new property started on the 12th May, with the official handover of the keys on the 16th December. “The property came in on time and more importantly on budget which was really important” said Andrew. The property is 32.5 squares, has 3 bedrooms, 2 living areas and a theatre room. “In reflection it is everything we ever imagined, the upstairs kitchen which leads out on to the deck is just fantastic, it’s getting heaps of use with the
warm weather we’ve been having. We also love the sleek fireplace and T.V which are both set into a purpose built insulated wall, as well as the shiplap timber entry which is a real attention getting feature as you enter the home.
“With Blue Cove Homes being a specialist coastal builder I think this made it easier for them to understand what we were trying to achieve, which in turn made the whole process go a lot smoother. Michael as a builder is also very detail orientated and thorough which helped give us extra piece of mind” said Emily.
“We Never Lost A Single Nights Sleep, Even Though It Was The Biggest Investment Of Our Lives ...”

The decision to build was initially pretty daunting” explains Glen. We found it very hard to find a builder we could trust. Many builders claimed they were good, but we found it hard to tell the difference. We had heard so many bad stories about the mass produced builders, which made the process of choosing a builder even harder”.
Having breakfast one morning Glen and Angela stumbled on a magazine article which profiled Blue Cove Homes award winning Indented Head display homes. Given they were local, they took a drive to Indented Head and although happy with the homes, they were more impressed with the people they met. “After meeting with several well known coastal builders we simply felt more trusting and comfortable with Michael as a builder. He seemed like a genuine guy and the best person to trust with the biggest decision and investment of our life, and that’s the main reason we went with him”.
“Both Michael and Di of Blue Cove Homes are fantastic people to build with, we had no worries throughout the entire process, and we never lost a single night’s sleep. They are fantastic communicators and would have spoken to us at least once a week whilst building. The finish, quality of the home and the follow up after handover has been incredible”.
“We had a strong preference for the type of home we were looking for. We wanted a contemporary coastal home that had a balcony, which was also open and flowing in design. We specifically wanted four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 2 living areas, which were to be set over split levels, whilst also having a blend of materials on the outside to give the property some character” said Glen.
The final result sees a home that feels open and spacious, delivering the illusion that it is even bigger than its actual 28.5 squares. The property
has also been built to GreenSmart standards which ensures lower heating and cooling costs and reduced energy and water consumption. Building of their new property started on the 18/9/2006, with the official handover of the keys on the 23rd March, 3 months ahead of schedule.
“Michael and Di were specific in defining what we could and couldn’t achieve with our budget from the beginning. They always kept
us advised of costs when we made any changes, which ensured there were no hidden surprises” said Glen.
